Gorgeous Things was founded in 1998 by Ann Steeves. Ann always had a passion for high-quality clothing and accessories. She learned to sew when she was 12 years old, and has continued sewing and studying garment and accessory construction techniques. In 2002, after 20 years in high technology, Ann struck out on her own, joined the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers and started Gorgeous Things as a full time business. Based in Burlington, Massachusetts, she produced custom clothing and accessories from her home. As a lark, Ann produced a few gift bags for wine. When she showed these to some of the local wine stores and oenophiles, their reaction was enthusiastic, and she began selling them. Later, Ann started selling her scarves and shawls at corporate gift fairs in the Boston area. In 2003, she began selling her shawls, scarves and handbags through select stores in the Boston area. In 2005, Gorgeous Things also became a featured author in Threads magazine - the premier sewing magazine from Taunton Press for sewers, knitters, quilters, and fashion designers. Some of her published articles to date include: Going Against the Grain - June/July 2007, No Fear Welt Pockets - Dec 2005/Jan 2006, A Handy Chart of Fusible Interfacings - Feb/Mar 2006, Pressing Matters - Aug/Sept 2006 (see the accompanying video on the Threads website!), Sew Stylish Magazine (A Taunton Publication). In 2006, Gorgeous Things joined the Blogosphere by participating in The Sewing Divas Blog as well as creating her own Gorgeous Things Blog. Beyond teaching and writing about sewing, the focus of Gorgeous Things these days is our on-line fabric store at Gorgeous Fabrics. Here, we present the opportunity to purchase high-end designer fabrics at fantastic prices! We only purchase small lots so the inventory is constantly changing.
