Back in January 2001, while wandering the quiet sidestreets of Hanoi, Vietnam, Lee had an epiphany to create a collection of modern lifestyle goods using the traditional crafts and local artisans that he encountered during these his travels. It was also during these initial travels that Lee was inspired by one of the most varied and useful natural gifts found on every continent: bamboo. From soups to scaffolding, bamboo has been used for centuries throughout Asia and much of the world as a staple. When writing home from abroad, Lee would often sign off as L. J. Bamboo, The Traveler--thus the name was born. L. J. Bamboo is a perfect fusion of Lees ideals. While starting an Chicago-based international business and providing quality, unique merchandise at home, the company could be employing global artisans that would, in effect, be assisting in the growth of these developing nations economies.
