Irina Crane, founder of Vassa, was born in KIiev, Ukraine a city rich in the traditions of eclesiastical and secular embroidery. Dating as far back as the 12th century this tradition, exhibited in the native costumes of the region as well as in many Russian Orthodox plashchanitsa (shrouds), was passed on from grandmother, to mother to daughter for centuries. Irina learned her exquiste needlepoint art directly from her grandmother Katrina Olegaivna. Ms. Crane furthered her artistic abilities by studying art in Germany and St. Petersburg. Irinas art of embroidery is evidenced in each unique evening purse in the Museum Collection here at Vassa. Irina has made it a special point to utilize only the finest threads, Swarovski crystals, silver and gold plated frames and other materials in the creation of her purses. In addition to the Museum Collection of Purses, Vassa has developed the Whimsy Collection of purses, the Vassa Feather Clutch, the Vassa Feather Choker, and the Vassa Feather Bracelet. (tm). The Museum Collection consists of single production evening purses for the discerning collector or for the buyer looking for a unique evening accessory. The Whimsy Collection consists of limited edition productions (no more than 20) of whimsical, fun and exquisite evening purses. The Vassa Feather Choker, Bracelet and Clutch can only be found here at Vassa and are the sole invention of Irina Crane.
