The Maternitywear Exchange (formally known as Ladies In Waiting) is run by Miriam and Ian Blazey. When Miriam was expecting the first of our two girls she discovered the problems a mother-to-be has of finding maternity clothes, let alone the expense of buying clothes that are only used for such a short period of time. The concept of The Maternitywear Exchange is to provide a service to pregnant women by offering affordable, good quality maternity clothes in relaxed surroundings. That is either in the comfort of their own home or in ours. Clothes are available in sizes 8 - 20+ and may be bought at 50-75% off the Manufacturers List Price. Locally, we also offer a Hire service for special occasions. When I was expecting my first baby, I was disappointed by the lack of range and the high cost of maternity clothes. As a petite 5’ nothing, the situation was even worse for me than for the “average” sized mum-to-be. I had always bought better quality clothes in Dress Agency shops and I thought Maternity clothes were ideal for a Dress Agency, especially as maternity wear has probably had one careful owner for only 6-9 months.Since October 1999 we have built up a collection of thousands of items, and a database of mums in the area of all shapes, sizes and styles. Our concept is for women to spend time browsing and trying on clothing in a relaxed, comfortable home environment, with friendly and knowledgeable help from a recent mum.
