Our name, Volund, is inspired by ancient nordic mythology prior to the viking era. Volund was a smith and a gifted craftsman. He was famous for his abilities to make invincible arms and jewelry of stunning beauty. He crafted a gold ring that offered the owner happiness, wealth and love. He crafted it for his swan maiden wife. The evil king Nidud attempted to steal the crafted work and decided that he alone should have control of sucha fine smith. Violently he tried to force Volund into a loveless life ofslavery. The evil king failed to control Volunds skills. The smith fashioned a pair of wings of exquisite workmanship for his escape. Volund escaped to Valhall to be with his maiden. Volund often struggled hardships but always managed move on. Volund was the first nordic artist. The Volund, F & L Knitwear AS hosiery mills,are situated in the village of Løkken Verk in Norway. The family owned company is builtupon traditions of more than 300 years of industrial activity at Løkken Verk. We are a small company of only 10 employees. Each year we produce about 15-20.000 sweaters of which we export 40-50% to several countries around the world. Most of our customers are shops specializing insweaters and other wool products. In Norway however we also sell a lot of sweaters to shops and stores which specialize in clothes and equipment for sports and wildlife. Some of these customers have a great demand for windproof clothing. Thus we also offer most of our sweaters with an optional elastic, windproof and comfortable lining. Beeing a small company we are able to serve our customers with individual service. Usually we start knitting only when we receive your order. Still we are able to produce 50-100 sweaters each day. In order to handle this volume and to keep our main focus on quality we have developed a simple but effective system for production managemant. The system is developed in close cooperation with the norwegian research institute SINTEF. In some periods of the year, like before Christmas, and in early spring, we start producing some of our best selling models so that we are able to deliver from stock.
