Leather Man Limited was started in 1967. The original location was above a pizza parlor - not a very auspicious beginning - but the overhead was low. The original owners, John Randak and Peter Dooney have moved on - John to become a successful retailer and Peter as one-half of Dooney & Bourke. When first produced, Leather Man belts were a real breakthrough. Genuine English bridle leather, solid cast brass, beautiful workmanship - the best that money could buy. And fairly priced. The Motif Belt - consisting of a ribbon with a woven repeated design sewn on to a fabric belt body - was introduced in 1972. Our White Schooner on Red Cotton Web was the first design. Then as now, Leather Man belts were a unique blend of our fine workmanship, excellent value, and classic styling.
