Grembo was incorporated by Vanessa Landegger and Luigi Antonioli in October 2003. Luigis lifelong experience as an internationally certified mountain guide in the Italian Alps, and Vanessas experience as a specialist in Public Health led to the creation of a company that respects the principle that it is our collective duty to leave the smallest footprint possible on the natural world as we pass, be it as climbers in the mountains, as citizens of New York City, or as a small business. This belief, coupled with the experience of raising children together and making choices important to their care, led Vanessa and Luigi to start Grembo. Grembo in Italian means womb. Our mission is to provide a space for babies where all the material they touch is pure and free of chemical irritants. We believe that protecting the surroundings of babies from harmful or abrasive substances is a birthright and is beneficial to their wellbeing. Being of European heritage, we have always used sleep bags for our baby sons because that is how our mothers put us to sleep too. Now that the concept is becoming popular in the US , we want to join two concepts: the European style baby sleep bag and extraordinary organic cotton fabric. In a way, our Grembo Bags are truly like a second womb, offering warmth, soft pure surroundings, and a sense of security and wellbeing. In addition, to ensure the quality of all the babys sleep surroundings, we also offer a fitted crib sheet, and burp cloths. Our intention is to grow our line from this initial nest. We are developing bottom snap shirts and other clothes that are worn close to the skin. At Grembo we use organic cotton in all our products. Beyond the “Organic” label, which ensures the quality of the cotton crop, we pledge that we will use only cotton that has been minimally processed (once harvested) without the use of formaldehyde or chlorine agents We make this pledge because we believe in supporting the organic agriculture industry, and because organic cotton is a superior quality, earth and baby friendly product.
