Zombie, is his operating handle, Scott Stevens is his name. You have no doubt seen his art, and heard his name before. His work has graced many hot rod shirts for a number of years now, and he has become internationally recognized, as a result of his work. Zombie is the kind of guy who likes to work behind the scenes, contributing to the field that has captured his imagination since his birth in Bakersfield, California in 1972. His is a traditional American story about fathers and sons. Zombies father, an architect, shared with his son, 2 of the interest that he loved most, hot rods and art. Zombie, like many kids in school who are independent minded, found the ordinary monotonous routine of the bureaucrats, and bean counters idea of education barely interesting enough to remain conscious. Zombies interest in art, and his intoxicating passion for hot rods was his saving grace, and his reason for continuing to learn beyond the boundaries of school. In the years after high school, Zombie found it nearly impossible to find work as a self taught artists. Frustrated with the lack of options, he began a small t-shirt business, featuring his own line of hot rod and pin up art. Zombie was able to see first hand that people loved his work. With his own venture, he was able to transcend his critics, and all the other self appointed authorities who get in, or stand in the way of keeping great things from happening. As it is with anyone who follows their own road in pursuit of a dream, they can readily tell you, its a hard road, and you will most likely be traveling it alone. Zombie has had his share of trouble in recent years, but his keen focus on what really matters, and his interest in hot rods and art has helped him survive. Perhaps that is the real story, surviving what ever happens to continue your journey. I expect we will be caught up in seeing his work, and experiencing his behind the scenes influence and insight for years to come.
